NHL Twitter Accounts

NHL Team Twitters

NHL Player, Former Player, and Television Personalities

* = Verified accounts

(disclaimer- I went through great pains to try to verify that the accounts were indeed the player, personality, or team BUT as with anything on the net it is very hard to be 100% sure unless they are verified by twitter. Some players, personalities, and teams have been having a hard time getting their accounts verified by twitter. So, If there are any impostors in the list I sincerely apologize for the mistake.)

It's soapbox time

“I watched women's hockey once. Then I got up and did something better with my life. Like watch grass grow and paint dry.”

“And I don't think any women's sport will really take off. Only women in men's league makes splashes. Just being honest in my opinion.”

Statements like those make me want to scream. Everyone has a right to their own opinion but reading these made me want to throw a hissy fight and/or slice someone's throat with a skate blade. Gruesome? Yes. Fact? Completely. Women’s hockey isn’t given the same funding or respect as the men’s but they are supposed to perform better than the men’s leagues? What are the women supposed to light the ends of their sticks on fire and twirl them around like flaming batons in order for you to be entertained?

Women’s hockey is boring, eh? If it was watched and no attention was paid to who was playing you probably wouldn’t have noticed a difference but since you know that it’s women playing He-Man syndrome generally kicks in and all the sudden you would rather the woman who is kicking ass on the ice be dressed like some glorified skankbox shooting t-shirts out of a cannon at the “real hockey games”. Women’s hockey NEEDS more advocates. It doesn’t need more macho men walking around talking about how Women’s sports will never compare to Men’s sports. Women, generally, aren’t given the same training opportunities or opportunities at all as the men. Girls who play in boy leagues are made to feel like they are less of a girl for playing the game with the boys. I can remember my senior year in high school the only way to be a part of women’s hockey was to transfer to an all girls catholic school and several of my underclassmen actually contemplating switching schools because that was their only opportunity to play. Most of the boy’s/men’s leagues aren’t as welcoming to women as they like to pretend that they are. I've noticed that at the end of the day even if they say they are pro-women's sports teams most people tend to treat them as a mockery. Women can play hockey. That's a fact, jack!

It seems like every couple months someone or something happens and I need to jump up on my soapbox and fight for Women’s rights. And roll your eyes all you please but Women’s hockey is a rights issue. Women aren’t given the same respect (need I remind you of the last time I had to jump up on the soapbox)

And with that, it's set

The Detroit Red Wings signed Justin Abdelkader to a two year contract today! (details not yet available)

This little guy wearing the Winged wheel is none other than Justin Abdelkader. It may have been fate that he became a Wing after all.

With the signing of Justin Abdelkader it appears that the Wings' roster is FINALLY set for Training Camp.

26 DAYS UNTIL THE WINGS HEAD TO TC FOR TRAINING CAMP

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Seems like it's been too long...

Double edge sword to going to the Stanley Cup finals back to back years is that us fans got used to the whole short summer routine. A short summer where you barely even blinked and it was time for training camp again. As we all know that didn't happen this past post season so many of us have been practically slamming our heads in car doors trying to pass the time until the season... or at least preseason... or that is training camp starts. The addiction to hockey sometimes is a powerful drug.

In case you wasted your off season waiting for hockey, here are some things you COULD have been doing

You could have checked out some potential post-hockey career options.

You could have tried your hand in another sport.

You could have played one of the numerous NHL games while waiting (still) for a call from your general manager.

You could have done the traditional "Hockey is over, Bring on the golf" thing.

Or you and some of your friends/teammates could have gone to a wedding, perhaps a teammate's wedding, and rocked an adult onesies in the name of "tradition".

Cuppy, Cuppy, Cuppy

Alright guys... I'm drinking the Kool-Aid.
(Anyone got a Cuppy, Cuppy, Cuppy I can borrow??)

After over a month of being Nodano or Meh-dano, I decided to become
...DUN DUN DUN...
Prodano!

Now this doesn't mean I'm going to cut the guy any slack by no means.
If you wear the winged wheel, I expect a certain competition level as well as a certain level of awesomeness.

Oh Mike, you can leave the whole angelic hockey player pose back in Dallas. With all due respect... Just put up, or Shut up.

I sure hope I don't regret drinking the Kool-Aid

Jackhole(s) of the Week

Two ALLEGED Jackholes of the Week

The alleged jackholes of the week go to Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks and Patrick Kaleta of the Buffalo Sabres for allegedly getting into a fight in up-state New York this past week. As the story goes, Patrick Kane was running his mouth to Patrick Kaleta about the Buffalo Sabres sucking and about the fact that he (Kane) won the cup. Now after that happened, Kaleta allegedly one punch knocked Kane out.

BUUUUUUUUUUT
Since all of the above is alleged the Jackhole of the Week title must go to someone who absolutely, undoubtedly deserves it.

Mister Gary "Knows Nothing" Bettman

Now I know certain media persons would like to lead you to believe that Gary Bettman not only knows something, he knows EVERYTHING. I'm sorry but I'm not going to be anywhere near THAT Kool-Aid stand. Gary is rude and disrespectful towards members of the media and towards the fans. He holds a sense of entitlement towards hockey that he did not earn, nor does he deserve. A law degree doesn't a hockey person make.

Helmer Time

Darren Helm signed a two year deal with the Detroit Red Wings today.

Let's take a moment to reflect on some Helmer Times.

Helmer with the Stanley Cup in 2008

Helmer/Draper in 2009

Half naked Helmer in... Well.... Who cares when.

Helmer during the 2008 Stanley Cup Parade

Helmer again during the 2008 Stanley Cup Parade

Celebrating with Stanley in 2008

(Something tells me that Brett Lebda taught him that)

My interpretation of how the Red Wings fan base reacted to Helmers signing

It's just around the corner!

The hockey season, although it may seem far away, is JUST around the corner. That being said make sure you're connected to the Red Wings in all possible ways.

Facebook
If you're one of many who enjoy Facebook, The Detroit Red Wings have their own page. Like this page and you are instantly connected to the Red Wings and nearly 250,000 Red Wings fans that also have liked this page.

LinkedIn
If you're on LinkedIn- This is the ONLY official Red Wings group on LinkedIn, operated and maintained by the Wings.

Myspace
Although it's not updated quite as frequently as it's Facebook counterpart, The Detroit Red Wings still maintain a membership on Myspace.

Twitter
My own personal favorite way to follow the Detroit Red Wings is to literally follow them... On Twitter. Twitter is also a great way to connect with fellow Red Wings fans so if you haven't join already... Drink the Kool-Aid and get on it!

You Tube
Last but most certainly not least, The Red Wings have their own channel on YouTube. Filled with everything from the videos you see on the screen at the Joe to behind the scenes videos that you won't find anywhere else.

Quite naturally if you're not into any of this social media mumbo jumbo you could always just keep tabs on the Wings by visiting the Official Detroit Red Wings Website
