Maybe there's something in the blood

Colorado Avalanche

Paul Stastny

Paul Stastny comes from a very hockey filled family. His Uncles Anton and Marian both played in the NHL as well as his older brother Yan and his Hall of Famer Dad, Peter. Not much is ever made about Peter Stastny but he does hold several records that most people don't credit him too often with. Peter was the first European trained player to reach 1000 points, holds the record for most points in a road game, and was the first player in NHL history to collect of 100 points in his rookie year. That's pretty impressive, huh? Well Paul holds a record as well. Paul holds the record for the longest consecutive point streak by a rookie.

Now how many records or relatives didn't draw me to the Stastny family. It was the amount of time they've spent with this franchise. When I say franchise, I am of course including the time when the Avalanche were indeed the Quebec Nordiques. Paul's dad Peter was in Quebec for 10 seasons, Paul's Uncle Anton was there for 9 seasons, and Paul's other Uncle Marian was there for 4 seasons. The former Quebec Nordiques drafted the son of one of the Nordiques most decorated and favorite players in 2005. Collectively the Stastny family has spent 28 seasons and counting with the Avalanche franchise in one form or another. Coincidence? Or is it in the blood?
